Spring postcards from the ITER site

Spring is blooming again on the ITER worksite and construction is booming as never before. Wherever the eye turns, there are marvels to gaze upon: the rising pillars of the Assembly Hall; the complex geometry of the rebar inside the Tokamak Complex; the strangely abstract pattern of the steel plates embedded in the walls...

As Newsline will not be published next week due to the May recess in France, we offer you this selection of worksite views.

One day of rain followed by one day of wind: in Provence, this is the recipe for translucent light and bright blue sky.
Steel reinforcement for the walls of the Diagnostics Building (right), bioshield (centre) and Tritium Building (left) looks like lace, knitted by a giant hand.
It takes a special lens to capture the entire Tokamak Complex Seismic Pit in one frame.
Construction progress on the Assembly Building (background) and the Tokamak Complex (foreground) can be resumed in one word: "RISING."

A dozen 400 kV electrical components for current and tension measurements seem to stand guard at the northern entrance of the Poloidal Field Coils Winding Facility. Solidly bolted into concrete and installed vertically to preserve their oil-filled insulation system, they are momentarily "stored" here in anticipation of their permanent installation on the platform later in the year.
